Why eBay listing photo metadata matters
eBay listing photos are indexed by Google Images alongside your listing. Images with embedded IPTC titles, keywords and creator metadata rank higher in Google Shopping and image search — driving organic traffic to your listings without additional ad spend. Embedded copyright and seller name also protect your photos if a competitor reuses them.
63%
of eBay shoppers discover listings through Google search before visiting eBay directly
2–4×
more Google Images impressions for product photos with embedded IPTC keyword metadata
100%
of smartphone listing photos contain embedded GPS coordinates by default — removable in one step
How to add metadata to eBay listing photos
Upload your listing photos
Drop your JPEG, PNG or WebP listing photos into ExifInjector. The tool accepts batches — process all photos for a single listing or multiple listings at once.
Fill in seller and item details
Enter your seller name, the item type (e.g. 'vintage Seiko watch'), key listing keywords, and condition. ExifInjector uses this context to generate accurate, buyer-intent titles and descriptions.
Generate metadata with AI
ExifInjector's AI reads each photo and writes a unique IPTC title, description, keyword set, seller credit and copyright notice directly into the file. No manual tagging per image.
Download and upload to your listing
Download individual files or a ZIP. Upload the optimised files to your eBay listing as you normally would. Metadata travels inside the image file — no plugin or eBay app required.

Frequently asked questions
Updated June 2025Does eBay read embedded IPTC metadata from listing photos?
eBay's own platform does not use IPTC data to populate listing fields. However, Google Images crawls your listing photos and reads IPTC titles and keywords to understand what the image shows. This affects how your listing photos appear in Google Search and Google Shopping, which drives external traffic to your eBay listings.
Should I remove GPS data from eBay listing photos?
Yes, if you photograph items at home. Smartphones embed GPS coordinates in every photo by default. Uploading those images to eBay makes your home address readable by anyone who downloads the photo and checks its EXIF data. ExifInjector removes GPS coordinates automatically during processing.
How many keywords should I add to eBay listing photo metadata?
12–15 keywords is the practical target. Focus on item-specific terms: material, brand, model, condition, colour, size, era, and intended use. Avoid generic words like 'photo' or 'image'. ExifInjector generates this keyword set from the item details you provide, so you don't need to write them manually.
Can I process all photos for multiple eBay listings at once?
Yes. Drop all your listing photos into ExifInjector in one batch. The AI generates unique metadata for each individual image based on visual content and the context you provide. You can then download a single ZIP containing all optimised files, organised by filename.
Will adding metadata change my listing photo quality?
No. ExifInjector writes metadata fields into the image file without touching the pixel data. File size increases by only a few kilobytes. The visual quality of your listing photos is completely preserved.
Does ExifInjector work with eBay's required image formats?
Yes. ExifInjector supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF and HEIC — all formats accepted by eBay's image uploader. Output format matches the input format by default, so your files stay exactly as eBay expects them.
