Why editing matters
Camera defaults are rarely correct for publishing. Manual editing lets you fix errors, align with your content strategy and keep attribution accurate — without re-shooting or re-exporting from Lightroom.

Format support depends on the container: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and TIFF all use different metadata structures. ExifTool handles the mapping.

ExifInjector uses ExifTool by Phil Harvey — the industry standard for reading and writing image metadata — as part of its workflow. No command line needed. The same engine trusted by photographers, archivists and DAMs, wrapped in a fast web UI.
ExifTool handles JPEG APP segments, PNG tEXt chunks, WebP VP8X/XMP and HEIC boxes so every field maps correctly.
Whether you generate metadata with AI (Injector) or edit it by hand (Editor), the same provenance and platform rules apply. Understanding them helps you edit correctly.

Some signals are stored as metadata, some embedded in pixels, some outside the file entirely.
When you use ExifInjector Injector, GPT creates the IPTC keywords, title and caption. When you use Editor, you write them yourself. In both cases the result is embedded text — but AI-generated metadata can carry additional provenance expectations.
A cryptographic manifest bound to the file that records the creation tool. Editing metadata with Editor does not remove a C2PA manifest — it requires a C2PA-aware writer. Spec: spec.c2pa.org.

The EU AI Act (Regulation EU 2024/1689) introduces transparency obligations for AI-generated content. Article 50 requires that outputs be marked in a machine-readable format and detectable as artificially generated or manipulated. This applies primarily to the provider of the AI system.
