Every image can carry information that is invisible when you look at it. Depending on the device, software and file format, an image may contain GPS coordinates, camera and lens information, capture timestamps, creator details, copyright fields, editing history, software identifiers, keywords and other embedded metadata.

Image metadata is information stored inside or alongside an image file that describes how the file was created, captured, edited, managed or published. It does not normally appear as part of the visible image. A photograph may look completely ordinary while still containing dozens of metadata fields.

Metadata is normally invisible, but it may remain attached when an image is downloaded, emailed, uploaded, sent, added to a marketplace, shared with a client or published as a downloadable asset.
A photo may contain location or device information.

Product images pass through many systems. Clean before publication.
Images can contain creator-tool and workflow info not intended for final audience.

The terms EXIF remover and metadata remover are often used interchangeably, but they do not mean exactly the same thing. EXIF is one specific family. A file can also contain GPS, IPTC, XMP, comments, software info, creator data and provenance information.
Removing EXIF does not necessarily remove every metadata field from an image.
Removing embedded metadata does not automatically remove every method that could identify origin.

ExifInjector uses ExifTool by Phil Harvey as part of its metadata-processing workflow.
AI-generated and AI-edited images can contain additional information beyond traditional camera EXIF. These signals are not all the same technology.
There is no single universal AI fingerprint. Different generators and platforms can use different provenance mechanisms.
C2PA Content Credentials can store cryptographically signed provenance information describing origin and history. Manifests can be embedded within supported file formats.
Google describes SynthID as an imperceptible digital watermark embedded into AI-generated media — designed to remain detectable through common modifications. Stripping ordinary metadata should not be presented as a method for removing SynthID.
IPTC metadata can describe the digital source of media via fields such as DigitalSourceType.
PNG files can contain textual fields with prompt info, software name, generation settings or workflow parameters.
Creative applications can write application or workflow information into XMP.
Information stored in supported areas of the file. A metadata-removal workflow can potentially remove supported embedded fields.
Some technologies embed signals directly into generated media. Not equivalent to EXIF tags.
Googles published search guidance focuses on the quality and usefulness of content.
AI generation alone does not make a page low quality.

Article 50 transparency obligations apply from 2 August 2026
Article 50 requires outputs to be marked in a machine-readable format and detectable as artificially generated or manipulated. This applies primarily to the provider of the AI system.
A metadata-removal tool should never promise: Remove metadata and no platform will know the image was AI-generated.
