Content Credentials (C2PA, Adobe) can be stored in an audio file's metadata — ID3v2 tags for MP3, Vorbis comments for FLAC/OGG, or custom iTunes atoms for M4A/AAC. This audio provenance checker reads the file's real tags and spots provenance-related fields: C2PA manifest, claim signature, an "AI-generated" assertion, ingredients and actions. Nothing is changed — it's a read-only analysis, useful for verifying a podcast, an AI voice clone, or an auto-generated music track before publishing.

A file exported from an AI voice generator, a mastering tool, or a voice-cloning service can embed a manifest in its metadata. Compatible Adobe viewers display it as Content Credentials. But most streaming platforms (Spotify, YouTube Music, SoundCloud) re-encode or repackage audio files on ingestion, which often wipes this metadata layer — hence the value of checking the source file before submission.

As of August 2, 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) makes machine-readable marking of synthetic content mandatory — including AI-generated or AI-modified audio (cloned voices, synthetic music) — across the EU, with fines of up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover. Knowing whether an audio file already carries a certificate avoids unwanted labels before release.

A provenance certificate is not a ranking signal for a podcast or music track. For audio SEO, prioritise clean ID3 tags — title, artist, album, description — and a descriptive transcript or episode notes for indexing. C2PA mostly helps editorial trust and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) — AI assistants are more likely to cite a source with clear provenance.
