What is C2PA video and Content Credentials?
C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) is the same open standard used for images, applied to video: it attaches a provenance certificate to the media container. Content Credentials (Adobe) is the visible implementation. For a video, the manifest can state "AI-generated", the model used, and a signed edit history.
Concretely, a video exported from Premiere Pro, an AI video generator (Sora, Runway, Veo) or some editors can carry a C2PA manifest in its container metadata (MP4/MOV), signaling AI involvement. That manifest travels with the file until it is erased.

C2PA vs EXIF and IPTC in a video
C2PA is distinct from classic metadata. EXIF (mostly in images, rare in video) describes capture; IPTC carries rights and description; C2PA adds a cryptographic chain of provenance (who, which tool, AI or not). Our tool performs a full wipe (-all=), removing EXIF, IPTC, XMP and the C2PA manifest in one pass.

Why remove Content Credentials from a video?
Several cases justify erasing it: publishing a "native" video without a provenance label, avoiding a stale or incorrect certificate following the file, or slimming the container. Our tool strips the C2PA manifest without re-encoding the stream (pictures and audio stay identical).

C2PA support for videos is newer than for images and remains uneven across formats and tools. Our tool removes known container metadata (XMP/Provenance) without re-encoding. For full concealment, re-encode the video afterwards.

Why this matters in 2026
Since 2 August 2026, EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) Article 50 makes machine-readable provenance marking of synthetic content (images, video, audio) enforceable across the EU, with fines up to €15 million or 3% of worldwide turnover. Meanwhile Google's "About this image" reads C2PA metadata.
